Tailoring Sessions To The Needs Of Our Clients

What is a Sports Massage?

Sports massage is a type of therapy which uses the combination of Deep tissue massage and Swedish massage to combat the effects of tight muscles and muscular tension. It is a technique that was first used on athletes to help decrease the tightness’s caused by intense exercise. It was a relatively unknown alternative therapy until the 1972 Olympics where Finnish track and field athlete Lasse Virén claimed deep friction massage (One of the techniques used) helped him win both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events.

One of the main aims of sports massage is to ease stiffness and pain. This is something that generally occurs after an intense workout. However, this is not the only circumstance of which individuals get stiffness or muscular related pain. Sitting for long periods of time, poor posture, injury and inactivity are also other contributing factors that can cause these discomforts.
